FundMyMusic is designed for serious musical, educational, scholarly and cultural projects. Before submitting a project, creators are asked to provide the main details, set a realistic funding target and set up payment details through Stripe Connect.
All projects on FundMyMusic are listed in euros. If your costs are in another currency, the funding calculator below can help you estimate a suitable euro target before you begin.
Planning your target
When setting your funding target, think beyond the main cost of the project. Many projects involve additional expenses that are easy to underestimate.
Depending on the project, you might need to allow for:
-
- Artist, performer or researcher fees
- Venue hire
- Travel and accommodation
- Instrument hire, tuning, transport or insurance
- Recording, editing, mixing or mastering
- Design, printing or production costs
- Rights, licences or permissions
- Translation, proofreading or editorial work
- Marketing and publicity
- Postage, packaging or fulfilment
- Contingency for unexpected costs
- FundMyMusic and Stripe fees
A realistic target gives supporters confidence and reduces the risk of a successful campaign still being underfunded.
Planning your funding target
Before launching your campaign, decide how much money your project requires.
If you already know the amount you need, simply enter it into the Funding Target Estimator below.
If you are unsure, or would like to check that you have not overlooked any expenses, you can use the optional Budget Builder. It allows you to itemise every anticipated cost and automatically calculates your project budget. The total can then be transferred directly into the Funding Target Estimator.
We recommend including a contingency amount for unexpected expenses, as almost every project incurs costs that were not anticipated at the outset.
Funding Target Estimator
Enter the total amount you expect your project to cost in your own currency. FundMyMusic will calculate a recommended campaign target in euros, taking into account your chosen platform plan and an estimated allowance for Stripe payment processing.
The Stripe figure is an allowance rather than an exact processing fee. Actual processing costs may vary depending on the payment method, country and transaction. Exchange rates may also vary.
Budget Builder (Optional)
Many campaigns fall short because creators overlook smaller expenses. Use the Budget Builder below to itemise your costs. If you already know your budget, simply skip this step.
Set up payment details
To receive donations through FundMyMusic, you will need to complete a secure payment setup through Stripe.
Stripe will ask for the information needed to verify your identity or organisation and pay funds to the correct account. This might include your legal name, organisation details, address, bank account and any information required for financial verification. You will also need to verify your identity. To do so, please have ready one of the following documents:
-
- a driving license
- passport
- identity card
- a residency card
These are necessary precautions to prevent fraud. Alternatives are also provided, though taking an image of the documentation is the least complicated option. Please also be prepared to take a photograph of your face. All the documentation is stored by Stripe and not FundMyMusic.
FundMyMusic does not receive or store your bank details. The payment setup is handled securely by Stripe, but the process is presented here as part of the FundMyMusic application.
Note: Once the setup is complete, a form for you to create your project will appear below.
