About this project
The Solberg Folk Trio has spent the last two years developing a set that moves between traditional Norwegian slåtter and original compositions written for fiddle, double bass and percussion.
Northbound takes that set on the road for the first time outside Norway: four dates across the Netherlands and Germany, each chosen through contacts built over several years of touring within Norway.
The campaign covers travel, venue hire where needed, and a modest fee for the trio's first international outing, with any surplus going toward a short recording session to capture the tour repertoire before it changes.
Why this project matters
This is the trio's first opportunity to perform outside Norway, and a chance to bring Norwegian folk-jazz to audiences who may never have encountered it live.
About the creator
Marit Solberg trained at the Grieg Academy in Bergen before spending several years performing with folk ensembles across western Norway. The Solberg Folk Trio, formed in 2021, has toured extensively within Norway and is now preparing its first dates abroad.
People involved
Marit Solberg (fiddle, arrangements), Henrik Aas (double bass), Ingrid Fjeld (percussion).
How the funding will be used
Travel and instrument transport: €1,400. Venue hire (two of the four dates): €900. Accommodation: €700. Trio fee for the tour: €500.
If the target is not reached
At the minimum amount, the trio would keep the two confirmed dates (Amsterdam and Cologne) and drop the two dates still awaiting venue confirmation.
Risks and possible delays
The two unconfirmed venues may fall through; if so, funds allocated to them would be redirected to extending the confirmed dates or refunded pro-rata to supporters, at supporters' preference.
Supporter rewards and acknowledgements
€15 — a digital thank-you recording of one tour performance. €40 — the above plus a signed postcard set from each tour stop. €90 — the above plus your name in the sleeve notes of the trio's next recording.
Existing support
The trio has self-funded all touring within Norway to date; this is the first campaign run for an international date.
